The first installment of many more hip-hop fests to come at Mist Club featuring Malaysia’s very own hip hop acts begins this 30th of August 2009 with DJ Cash Money from Philadelphia, USA headlining the show along with Malaysia’s DJ Face, MC Syze, Aisyaa & Yasmeen together with Singapore’s Sleeq and Richard J.
Grab a flag, put on your party hats and some blings, and head over to Mist Club as we celebrate patriotism and Malaysia’s Independence Day in style! Countdown with the hip hop maestro, DJ Cash Money along with our very own homegrown (as well as our neighbour Singapore’s) finest hip hop acts! Well well, nothing screams patriotism more than supporting our own local music industry.
DJ Cash Money
Philadelphia’s DJ Cash Money has taken the hip-hip world by storm by winning the new music seminar DJ championship in New York, the DMC American Mixing Championship in Los Angeles and the DMC World supremacy DJ Championship in London throughout the late eighties. Since winning all three championships, Cash now judges DJ contests world-wide. His unique mixing style and raw innovation on the turntables brought DJ Cash Money billboard charting singles such as Ugly People Be Quiet, Find an Ugly Woman, and Where’s The Party At? and an international tour of more than 20 countries and over 50 cities in the U.S. By the early nineties cash had joined platinum-selling R&B act PM Dawn, remixed and produced the group’s gold selling single, Ways Of The Wind, on Island Records, and toured over 100 U.S. cities and most of Europe. in 1998, cash was inducted into the DMC –Technics hall of fame.
DJ Face
DJ Face of Malaysia started DJing at the tender age of 16. DJ Face has won himself titles like the Malaysian DMC in ‘96 and ‘97. Face also established his reputation serving residencies at well-known clubs like Baze 2, Boom Boom Room and Orange to name a few. He spanned his DJ career abroad in ‘04 to UK & was also part of the international superclub brand, Godskitchen. Face also started a DJ School called Playaz Universe successfully producing established DJ’s such as T-Bone, Fuzz, Uno, Biggy, Blink, Cza, Goldfish & many others.
MC Syze
The rapper known as MC Syze came onto the hip-hop scene in KL sometime in the late 90’s. It wasn’t soon before long, till he found his true form and identity being a solo rap artist. After a long leave of absence, the infectious hit single ‘Dancin’ dropped and dominated airwaves for the of 2005/2006 and even today the song remains one of Malaysia’s favourite local hip-hop tracks. He then hooked-up with the well-established DJ T-Bone as an MC for a couple of nights a week on the hottest nightspot circuit in KL establishing himself as one of KL’s finest MCs.
Aisya & Missosixnine
Aisya Hasnaa is a fresh faced singer who started singing at the tender age of 13 and. Inspired by Beyonce Knowles, Ashanti, John Legend and others, she was led into the soulful R&B genre. The highlights of her career was having the chance to perform in front of VIPs such as Sultanah of Pahang, Datin Seri Rosmah, Dato Shahrizat, and international celebrities like Dato Shah Rukh Khan and Jermaine Jackson of the Jackson 5. Missosixnine or better known as Yasmeen is a 23 year old performer hailing from Subang Jaya. She discovered her love for hip-hop at the age of 11 and formed a group called Catapult at the age of 13 together with sister, Ze!. She has since performed in various venues such as Tower Records KLCC and Berjaya Times Square. Her love for music has driven her to continue studying in School of Audio Engineering in 2004 and is currently learning DJ-ing under the guidance of DJ T-Bone and other DJs from KartelHitmen.
Sleeq
Formed in 2005 by cousins, Ahmad Syarif and Alyph Abdullah at their tender age of 16, Sleeq is out to introduce and push their fresh musical flavor, which blends melodious soulful hooks with polished urban beats. What started out as an adolescent adventure for the pair when they had took part in a local hip‐hop competition in two separate groups, blazed the path for the teenage duo to get together and become the new generation of entertainers in Singapore.
Richard J
Richard J, at the age of 12, started composing his own songs fuelled by his passion for music. He began performing at the age of 15, joining Street Competitions/Battles. In 2005, he joined his first Rap Battle as a soloist. He won the contest, moving on to win another Rap Battle 2 months later. With a brand new LP in the works, scheduled to release in 2009; Richard is far from taking a breather.
